Alinta / Roy Hill – Relocation of Roy Hill Mine Point of Common Coupling and Metering

Project overview

Alinta, a leading utility company, and Roy Hill, a major Iron Ore producer, collaborated with Praxis for the relocation of the Roy Hill Mine Point of Common Coupling (PCC) and Metering. The project involved intricate electrical engineering, fabrication, installation, construction and commissioning of critical components, including current transformers and dual redundant SEL 735 Power Quality and Revenue meters. The relocation aimed to optimise asset ownership and enhance operational efficiency for both Roy Hill and Alinta.

Project scope

Electrical engineering, fabrication, installation, construction and commissioning for the supply and installation of current transformers and dual redundant SEL 735 Power Quality and Revenue meters.

Challenges overcome

  • Significance of the equipment involved.
  • Necessity for a short shutdown window for the tie-in process.

Solution

  • Conducted extensive design reviews and standalone risk assessments to identify potential issues.
  • Implemented a meticulous scheduling plan to work on one of the two supply lines at a time, minimising the risk to the entire operation.
  • Executed a stringent test plan to ensure successful implementation and functionality post-relocation.

Results

  • Successful relocation of the Roy Hill Mine Point of Common Coupling and Metering.
  • Mitigated risks through thorough planning, design reviews and risk assessments.
  • Enhanced the practicality of the PCC and metering setup for improved operational efficiency.
